May 68Delporte

The events of May 1968 left indelible images in an explosion of French street poster art. Coverage in the state-controlled mass media was more muted yet revealing in its own way about the blockages that drove millions of demonstrators and strikers to bring the nation to a halt. On the fortieth anniversary of these events, Professor Christian Delporte (Université de Versailles-Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines) re-assesses their coverage in the French and foreign media.Christian Delporte is Professor of contemporary history at the Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en Yvelines and Director of the Centre d'histoire culturelle des sociétés contemporaines. He works on 20th century politicial and cultural history with particular reference to media history. He is President of the Société pour l'histoire des médias and Director of the journal Le Temps des médias.
