- For thirty-four days, the famous author and poet Rodney Saint-Éloi was in Tallahassee as the Winthrop-King Institute Writer in Residence.
- Two students will be selected this summer to benefit from a new exchange with the Université des Antilles. In spring 2018, they will be able to study in Martinique.
- In October 2016, forty-five speakers presented at the Winthrop-King’s conference The Performance of Pan-Africanism: From Colonial Exhibitions to Black and African Cultural Festivals.

- Thanks to the institute’s collaboration with two great programs (the Slavic program at FSU and the France-Florida Research Institute at UF), the screening and roundtable discussion of Francofonia was a great success in October 2016.
