CALL FOR APPLICATIONS — FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY / UNIVERSITÉ DES ANTILLES EXCHANGE PROGRAM

The purpose of the Winthrop-King Scholarship for the Martinique Exchange Program is to provide an opportunity to language students at Florida State University to travel and study languages and cultures at an institution recommended and approved by the university and language program professor.

Université Des Antilles, the only French university of the Caribbean and Americas region, is a multidisciplinary establishment which welcomes around 11,000 students every year. Its five campuses are located on two islands: Guadeloupe and Martinique. Florida State University partners with the Martinique campus. Martinique is located in the Caribbean region and is home to many French scholars including Aimé Césaire and Frantz Fanon.

During the 2010-2011 school year, the Université Des Antilles counted 11,140 students distributed on two French territories of Americas: the Archipelago of Guadeloupe (6,145 students), and the Island of Martinique (4,995 students). One of the priorities of the Université Des Antilles is to participate in regional development by means of exchange programs and cultural cooperation with a large range of foreign universities, including American universities.

Read more about the Université Des Antilles on their website in French or use the top right navigation to switch to English.

About the Exchange Program

Through this program, the selected students (up to two per academic year) will spend one full semester at the designated university. The students will be enrolled in FSU credit hours and will take equivalent courses (chosen by a coordinator/professor in the French program at FSU) at the Université Des Antilles.

  • ALL COURSES will be taught in French. Some language courses may be available in English or Spanish and a special Creole course is offered to incoming exchange students.
  • A B2 level of French (upper intermediate) is highly recommended.
  • Students must register for French language courses while attending the exchange program.

The University of the Antilles follows the French grading scale, 0-20.

Exchange students are required to be enrolled as full-time students at the U.A. Courses completed at the U.A. must be assigned an FSU equivalent course and factored into the FSU GPA.

As part of the online Global Exchange application, students complete a course approval form to obtain FSU course equivalencies from appropriate FSU advisers and faculties. Students must meet with their academic adviser to approve the overall course plan.
